Why the name Heliport?
From 1953 to 1965, Rotterdam had a helicopter landing pad (named Heliport) in the center of the city. With the landing of two helicopters from the Belgian airline Sabena, the Rotterdam-Antwerp-Brussels helicopter service was opened in 1953. A passenger service followed on September 1, 1953.
In 1965 this connection with Brussels came to an end because of the new airport Rotterdam-The Hague Airport (formerly known as Zestienhoven).
